Carron Phillips: Kevin Durant's excuse for getting mad at the media is beyond ironic

Kevin Durant went on a media tour to explain his bashing of the media.

After not speaking to the media for nine days, the Warriors star blew up on the media for speculating on his upcoming free agency plans _ which could include the Knicks _ during a press conference last week after the Warriors demolished the Spurs.

On Monday morning, Durant appeared on an episode of ESPN's "Get Up" to explain why he wants to only talk basketball with the media, not business.

Mind you, the business side of basketball is just as important as the game these days.

"When you have beat writers to come into practice and he games you build relationships with these guys in person. I just wanted to let them know how I approach the game as a player knowing that I have to talk to media," Durant said when asked about his temper tantrum.

Ironically, Durant spent much of Monday on a media tour for his new upcoming show on ESPN+ called "The Boardroom" which will focus on the business of sports. He also made an appearance on "Good Morning America."

"If I get an opportunity to talk to media I want to give the fans my perspective about the game, not about business," Durant said. "Stuff that that I can't control at this point. So I was just letting them know what I want to talk about when come into practice, before shoot-around or after a game.

"It was good to get that off my chest and to let everybody know in the building, that if you're covering the team you know what I'm about."

Some jokes just write themselves.
