Carroll and Fraser recalled - the Newcastle XI fans would like to see against Newport

Andy Carroll and Ryan Fraser should be handed starts as Newcastle United travel to face Newport County in the Carabao Cup.

That's the view of Magpies supporters, who believe Steve Bruce should ring the changes for the televised encounter at Rodney Parade.

United thrashed Morecambe in the last round, but struggled in their controversial 1-1 draw at Tottenham on Sunday. Callum Wilson's penalty in injury time was the visitors' only shot on target in the capital, and the Magpies have only managed three shots on target in three top-flight assignments so far.

The likes of Jacob Murphy, Emil Krafth, and DeAndre Yedlin were handed chances to impress in the last round of the competition at the Mazuma Stadium.

With this in mind, supporters would like to see Bruce give opportunities to fringe players again in a 4-4-2 formation for tonight's trip to Newport.

Mark Gillespie returns as the Carabao Cup goalkeeper and will hope to record a third consecutive clean sheet following shut-outs against Blackburn Rovers and Morecambe.

Yedlin comes in to the back four in his natural position at right-back, with Jamal Lewis on the opposite flank. Ciaran Clark continues his return from injury and partners captain Jamaal Lascelles at the heart of defence.

Academy graduates Dan Barlaser and Sean Longstaff are paired together in central midfield, with Jacob Murphy and Ryan Fraser tasked with providing width.

Joelinton will look to build upon his two-goal haul in his last cup start, and fans would like to see Andy Carroll start in attack alongside him.
