Carrigaline stabbing: TD pleads with public not to share horrific video of teen in Co Cork

A TD has pleaded with the public not to share a vile video which appears to show the moment a teenage boy was stabbed multiple times.

A boy was rushed to hospital after a vicious incident in the Waterpark area of Carrigaline, Co Cork.

He is being treated at Cork University Hospital after sustaining several stab wounds during the assault which happened at around 10.30pm on Saturday.

Footage apparently showing the horrific stabbing has been circulating widely on social media on Sunday morning.

In the video, the boy can be seen lying helplessly on the ground as a group of thugs film and carry out the shocking attack.

However, Sinn Fein's Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire urged people not to re-share the clip out of respect for the victim.

He said: "Deeply upsetting news from Carrigaline last night, a truly shocking incident.

"I am aware of videos of the incident circulating. Out of respect to the victim, please do not share.

"Please also be aware that sharing names of people involved in the incident could undermine the chance of convictions.

"If you have information please go to the Gardaí. Wishing the victim a full recovery, and I hope justice will be done."

Another teenage boy has since been arrested in connection with the investigation and is being detained by gardai in Cork city.

The victim's injuries are understood to be non-life threatening.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are investigating an assault that occurred at approximately 10:25pm on Saturday 6th June 2020 in the Waterpark area of Carrigaline, County Cork.

"Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident and for any persons with information to come forward.

"Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area at the time to make this footage available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Togher Garda Station on 021 4947120, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
