A carrier bag of meat left in a bucket sparked concern and even led to an area of Wirral being cordoned off this afternoon.
A cordon was set up in an alleyway in Rice Lane, Wallasey, this afternoon (Sunday) after a member of the public raised the alarm.
Nearby resident Gilly Holmes said she spotted two police officers at the scene, both with masks on and one wearing dark blue plastic gloves.

She added: "They were chatting for a while then the car took off... everything gone tape included."
A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We received a call to say that someone had found a bucket with a bag in it. It was covered in flies and giving off a horrendous smell.
"There was also a blood trail nearby which led us to fear the worst.
"As it turned out it was nothing sinister. A sample was taken to a CSI laboratory where it was confirmed it was effectively some old meat that had been thrown out, not human tissue.
"The council was informed and removed the items."
