Carrie Symonds denies rumours that Welsh rescue dog she shares with Boris Johnson will be rehomed

The Welsh rescue dog adopted by the Prime Minister and his partner Carrie Symonds will not be looking for a new home, it's been confirmed.

Rumours have been circulating that the pup might not have his paws under the table after all, following the couple's shock pregnancy announcement early this month.

A story published by The Times on Wednesday, March 11 said the Jack Russell, named Dilyn, may soon be looking for a new home.

According to the paper, one Whitehall source predicted: "I'm not sure that dog is going to make it through the next reshuffle."

They claimed the pair had "grown weary" of the dog and was fed up with the mess it created in their apartment.

But Ms Symonds was quick to dismiss the rumours on social media, calling it "a load of total crap".

She tweeted: "There has never been a happier, healthier and more loved dog than our Dilyn. 100% bs.

"The people behind this story should be ashamed of themselves," she said.

The pooch had a tough start to life after being brought to Friends of Animals Wales in Rhondda at just 15 weeks old.

Dilyn was abandoned by puppy farmers after being born with a crooked jaw. It was believed this would have made the dog difficult for the breeders to sell on.

The Prime Minister selected Dilyn to highlight the introduction of Lucy's Law, which will ban cruel third-party puppy sellers in England from April 6, 2020.

At the time, Friends of Animals Wales said: "We would like to thank Carrie and the Prime Minister for opening their hearts and their home to a puppy farm survivor and for inviting Friends of Animals Wales back to Downing Street once again.

"We wish them a lifetime of happiness with their new best friend."
