Carrick Rangers one of several clubs chasing Stewart Nixon with versatile forward set to leave Coleraine

Carrick Rangers are one of several clubs believed to be in the hunt for Stewart Nixon who looks destined for the exit door at the Coleraine Showgrounds.

Nixon, who joined the Bannsiders from Carrick in January 2020, is one of six forwards in Oran Kearney’s attacking armoury for next season.

And with a number of other players above him in the pecking order, it may suit the 24-year-old to seek a new challenge before the transfer window shuts.

A number of clubs are monitoring Nixon's situation, but it is understood former club Carrick would be at the front of the queue for the player’s signature.

Nixon, who helped Rangers gain promotion to the Danske Bank Premiership in 2019, scored four goals in 29 games for Coleraine last season, although 11 of those appearances were off the bench.

Kearney has a host of striking options at his disposal for the new campaign, including summer signing Cathair Friel, James McLaughlin, Matthew Shevlin, Eoin Bradley and Curtis Allen.

New Carrick manager Stuart King, who was appointed in June, has already been busy in the transfer market with several new arrivals at Taylor’s Avenue.

Experienced defender Jim Ervin was snapped up after leaving Ballymena United in June, while versatile forward David Cushley was another recent high-profile arrival from Crusaders.
