Carriageway resurfacing works to take place in Whalley Range this week

Resurfacing work will begin this week on two roads in south Manchester.

The work is part of the council’s £100m highways investment programme.

Demesne Road in Whalley Range will be relaid from Tuesday (August 12). The work is expected to be finished on Monday, August 24.

The work will start at the Alexander Road South entrance and end near Demesne Road.

Resurfacing between Edith Avenue and Burdith Avenue will start on Thursday (August 13).

The work is expected to be done a week later on Thursday, August 20.

Engineers will be on site between 7am and 5pm on weekdays.

The roads will be closed during certain time periods to allow for resurfacing to take place.

“In order to undertake the works we will need to close the roads when the existing surface is being removed and when the new surface is being laid,” Manchester council said in a letter.

“Whilst the ironwork is being renewed and / or adjusted the roads will remain open.”

People will receive further information from the contractor regarding when they are advised not to leave vehicles on the roads.

The work is taking place as part of the council’s five-year commitment to improving roads in the city.

The £100m investment will help extend the lifespan of more than 300 highways, cycle lanes and footpaths.

Assia Shah, Labour candidate for Whalley Range in the next local election, said the planned improvement work had been a ‘high priority for a while’.

“We’re pleased that it’s been possible to fit this work into the summer schedule."
