Anthony Kiedis has revealed how his recent stint in James Corden's very famous car took an alarming turn when it was interrupted by a woman crying for help because her baby wasn’t breathing.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers were the most recent passengers to feature in Carpool Karaoke. The video of the group, who were half naked at points, singing hits including “Can’t Stop” and “Californication” with the Late Late Show host has already amassed over 11,500,000 views since it was posted on Youtube on Tuesday and, like all others in the series, has become an instant viral hit.
Yet on Thursday Kiedis provided some behind-the-scenes insight when he told Chris Moyles on Radio X about a “very unscripted moment” where Kiedis ultimately ended up saving a baby's life.
Kiedis explains he and Corden had pulled over the car from its tour of Los Angeles to battle it out in a dance-off. They then planned to eat some Mexican food when “a woman came out of her house holding a child saying: ‘My baby, my baby, my baby can’t breathe.”
The frontman said the group ran across the street to help and the mother “thrust the baby into my arms”. Kiedis said the baby wasn’t breathing so he wanted to try “do a little baby CPR real quick” yet was unable to open the baby’s mouth, which was “locked shut".
“So I started rubbing the belly, bubbles came out of the mouth, the eyes rolled back into place. The ambulance showed up, I handed the baby over who was now breathing and fine. And we went back to doing Carpool Karaoke,” he said simply.
Despite Kiedis claiming to help regain the baby’s consciousness, the 53-year-old maintained he is not a “hero”.
“When you’re a Dad and somebody else yells ‘my baby’ you jog across the street,” said Kiedis, who has a seven-year-old son called Everly Bear. He said it was “kind of a beautiful thing” they happened to be there filming a dance-off.
