Carphone Warehouse confirms Nottinghamshire standalone stores will not reopen

The Nottingham standalone branches of Carphone Warehouse will not reopen, the owner has confirmed.

Dixons Carphone - which was founded in 2014 through the merger of Dixons Retail and Carphone Warehouse - announced in March this year that it planned to close all 531 of its standalone Carphone Warehouse stores.

The move resulted in 2,900 job losses but the company said it expected to be able to find new internal roles for around 1,800 of the affected colleagues.

In Nottinghamshire, the affected stores include the intu Victoria Centre and Albert Street stores in Nottingham city centre.

There were also stores in Radford, Ladybay Retail Park, Beeston, West Bridgford, Carlton, Daybrook and Victoria Retail Park in Netherfield.

The company said it will now focus on selling mobile devices and connectivity through its shop-in-shops in 305 big Currys PCWorld stores and online.

The small standalone stores, representing eight percent of Dixons Carphone’s total UK selling space, closed on April 3, 2020.

A spokesperson from Dixons Carphone said: “I can confirm that 13 smaller standalone Carphone Warehouse stores have closed across Nottinghamshire in line with the announcement we made in March as part of our mobile transformation.

"However, our Carphone Warehouse stores within our large Currys PC World 3-in-1 stores remain open. There are five of these stores across Nottinghamshire which are all open and available to customers."
