Visitors walk through a field of nemophila flowers in full bloom at Hitachi Seaside Park in Hitachinaka, Ibaraki Prefecture, on Friday.
About 5.3 million of the annual plant native to North America cover a field 4.2 hectares in size.
"This surreal scenery of a blue carpet is so soothing," one visitor said.
The park was closed at this time last year due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Nemophila are in season until around the end of April. Visitors are asked to wear masks in the park, where the viewing route is one-way through May 9, to decrease crowding.
