Carpenter 'mimicked boxer' in confrontation with police officers

A 24-year-old carpenter has been fined after taking up a boxing stance towards police officers.

Bradley Humby, of Wallshut Wood, Stoke Gifford, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour in Portland Square, Bristol, when he appeared in Bristol Magistrates’ Court today (July 2).

The prosecution said that at 7.30am on June 7 an ambulance went out to see Humby after he phoned to say he was feeling suicidal.

On the crew’s arrival, however, Humby said he did not feel suicidal, but thought he was wanted by the police.

This prompted a call to the authorities, said the prosecution, and when two officers attended, Humby shouted at them to get out of their car.

The prosecutor said Humby shouted “let’s have it!” at the officers as he puffed out his chest and started bouncing around.

Both officers tried calming Humby down, said the prosecutor, but the defendant continued to say “let’s have it”.

At one point Humby stood about 15 centimetres away from one of the officers, according to the prosecutor, before going on to raise his arms slightly as if he were “mimicking a boxer”.

The defence agent said Humby had broken up with his girlfriend and while he could not remember feeling suicidal, he did feel “particularly low”.

Humby, who is self-employed, had been living with his mother since the offence, said the defence agent.

The magistrates issued Humby with a fine of £153 and told him to pay compensation of £50 to each of the officers.
