Caroline Wozniacki calls Maria Sharapova's spot at Arthur Ashe 'questionable'

NEW YORK _ Caroline Wozniacki on Thursday was critical of tournaments handing out wild cards to Maria Sharapova after she came back from a drug suspension in April. Sharapova is playing on a wild card at the U.S. Open.

After falling to Ekaterina Makarova in a second-round match on Court 5 early Thursday morning, the fifth-seeded Wozniacki was critical of U.S. Open officials for scheduling Sharapova's Wednesday day match at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

"I think putting out a schedule where the No. 5 in the world is playing on Court 5, fifth match after 11 (p.m.), I think that is unacceptable," Wozniacki said in the wee hours Thursday. "When you look at center court, I understand completely the business side of things and everything, but someone who comes back from a drug sentence, and you know, performance-enhancing drugs, and then all of a sudden gets to play every single match on center court, I think that's a questionable thing to do."

Sharapova's third-rounder against another wild card, American Sophia Kenin, is scheduled as the second match tonight at Ashe.
