Caroline Flack said it was 'unfair' to blame Love Island for tragic deaths of stars

Caroline Flack said it was "unfair" to blame Love Island for the tragic deaths of its stars.

The former presenter of the ITV2 dating show was found dead at her London home today.

A lawyer for the Flack family confirmed that Caroline took her own life.

A family spokesperson said: "We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today on the 15th February.

"We would ask that the press respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time."

The 40-year-old is the third star of the show to take her own life.

Sophie Gradon, who appeared on the show in 2016, died by suicide in 2018 at the age of 32.

Tragically, her grief-stricken boyfriend Aaron Armstrong, took his own life just days later.

Last year, Mike Thalassitis, who starred in the 2017 series, was found hanged. He was 26.

The show faced a lot of criticism at the time, but Caroline, who was then the presenter, spoke out in its defence.

She said: "It's dangerous and I'm really, really angry.

"It's not just that you're blaming a TV show, you're blaming people and their jobs."

The host told  Cosmopolitan magazine: "In life, we all have a duty of care to look out for each other, but I don't think it's fair to point fingers of blame.

"This is a much bigger issue than just a reality TV show, and when something this bad happens... when something this horrible and sad occurs, it's so dangerous to point fingers within hours and minutes of it happening.

"None of us know what's going through someone's mind and we can't sit there and speculate.

"It's time to think about the bigger picture, about what's going on with young men and young people and the pressures of modern life. It's just too sad and too sensitive to talk about."

Caroline had paid tribute to both Sophie and Mike after their deaths.

Speaking on Aftersun, she said of Sophie: "Before we go, tragically this week we lost a beautiful soul in Sophie Gradon.

"She was a gorgeous person both inside and out... Everyone's thoughts here at Love Island are with Sophie's friends and family at this really terrible time.

"Sophie we will never forget you."

Paying tribute to Mike, she wrote on Instagram: "Mike... you were a total gentleman... I won’t forget that ... it’s so sad ...you will be missed. RIP."
