Caroline Flack's inquest date announced after Love Island host's tragic death

Caroline Flack's inquest will be opened on Wednesday, February 19, following the star's tragic death.

The inquest will be held at 10am at the Poplar Coroner's Court in London.

It's likely to be opened then adjourned for several weeks while the coroner gathers the post-mortem report, toxicology tests and other evidence, reports Mirror Online.

A lawyer for Caroline's family confirmed she had taken her own life on Saturday, aged 40, just weeks before she was due to stand trial on March 4.

A family spokesperson said: "We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today on the 15th February.

"We would ask that the press respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time."

LOVE ISLAND'S MOVING TRIBUTE TO CAROLINE FLACK

It's believed Caroline was given a clinical assessment by paramedics when they were called to her flat on Valentine's Day, just one day before she died.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "Crews attended and, following a clinical assessment, the person was not taken to hospital. Due to patient confidentiality we cannot comment further."

Caroline was due to stand trial on March 4, after being charged with assault by beating after an alleged row broke out with her boyfriend Lewis Burton at her London home in mid-December.

Caroline pleaded not guilty to the charge while her boyfriend backed her and always maintained she was innocent.

Lewis poured his heart out on social media when he shared his grief in an Instagram post shortly after her death.

He wrote: "My heart is broken we had something so special.

"I am so lost for words I am in so much pain I miss you so much I know you felt safe with me you always said I don’t think about anything else when I am with you and I was not allowed to be there this time I kept asking and asking."

Caroline had been banned from contacting Lewis indirectly and directly ahead of her trial.

Since her death thousands of celebrities and fans have taken to social media to mourn for the troubled star.

Last night Love Island started with a special tribute to Caroline, with voiceover Iain Stirling providing a moving tribute.
