Caroline Flack's brave battle with depression as she urged sufferers to seek help

Caroline Flack had always been open about her brave battle with mental health issues.

Tragically, it has emerged today that the 40-year-old Love Island host has been found dead in her home.

It is believed she has taken her own life.

A spokesman for Caroline's family said: "We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today on the 15th February.

"We would ask that the press both respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time."

A lawyer for the Flack family confirmed that Caroline took her own life and was found in her east London flat on Saturday.

The much loved presenter admitted she spiralled into depression after she was crowned Strictly Come Dancing champion.

Caroline was thrilled when she lifted the Glitterball with professional partner, Pasha Kovalev.

But she admitted that she struggled to cope in the aftermath.

In one heartbreaking interview, Caroline said: "It all started the day after I won Strictly. I woke up and felt like somebody had covered my body in clingfilm.

“I couldn’t get up and just couldn’t pick myself up at all that next year.

"I felt ridiculous, being so sad when I’d just won the biggest show on telly and had such an amazing job.”

She explained that she was presribed anti-depressants, but said they left her feeling "numb".

Caroline then weaned herself off the medication after she believed she had become too reliant on the tablets.

Heartbreakingly, in an interview last year, she also admitted that "fame doesn't make you happy".

Caroline added: "People see the celebrity lifestyle and assume everything is perfect, but we're just like everyone else.

"Everyone is battling something emotional behind closed doors - that's life."

However, despite her own, brave, personal battle with mental health issues, Caroline was adamant that her story would help others.

She fearlessly used her own experiences to urge anyone else who was suffering in the same way to seek help.

In a poignant Instagram post, Caroline wrote: "I find it hard to talk about it … I guess it’s anxiety and pressure of life … and when I actually reached out to someone they said I was draining.

“I feel like this is why some people keep their emotions to themselves.

"I certainly hate talking about my feelings. And being a burden is my biggest fear…

“I’m lucky to be able to pick myself up when things feel shit.

“But what happens if someone can’t. Be nice to people. You never know what’s going on. Ever.”

The Strictly champion has recently returned from a wellness break in LA after she was charged with allegedly assaulting her boyfriend, Lewis Burton.

Caroline had denied the charge and was due to stand trial on March 4.

While the case was ongoing, she stepped down from her Love Island presenting duties.

But kindhearted Caroline threw her backing behind her pal and replacement, Laura Whitemore.
