Caroline Flack breaks silence over Love Island replacement ahead of new series

Caroline Flack has broken her silence over her replacement on Love Island ahead of the new series.

It was announced last month Laura Whitmore would be stepping in as the ITV show 's host after Caroline Flack was arrested and taken to court accused of assaulting her boyfriend Lewis Burton.

The 40-year-old announced she had quit the show on her Instagram saying that she was "committed to working with the authorities" and stated that she did not want the on-going case to detract from the show.

Laura Whitmore was later announced as the winter version of the dating show's latest presenter but Caroline Flack did not comment on her replacement at the time.

On Sunday, just hours before the show's premiere, Flack broke her silence on Instagram to wish Laura and voiceover comedian Iain Stirling good luck for the upcoming series.

Posting to her story, Caroline said: "Massive good luck to Laura, Iain and the team for tonight's launch show...

"The first one always the best one."

Love Island returns to screens just weeks after Caroline Flack was spotted looking stern as she arrived at court after the alleged assault.

She is charged with assaulting former professional tennis player and model Burton, 27, by beating, at her flat in Islington, north London, on December 12.

Flack arrived at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on December 23 wearing a black coat, scarf and boots and was escorted into court by police, who pushed back a waiting pack of photographers and video camera operators.

Burton earlier arrived at court separately from his girlfriend, wearing a navy parka jacket with a fur-lined hood.

He has previously spoken out in support of the presenter, claiming she has become the subject of a "witch hunt" following her arrest.

In an emotional Instagram post the night before, Flack wrote: "This is the worst time of my life. I don't know where to go to. Where to look. Who to trust. Or who I even am."
