The Panthers have placed defensive back Natrell Jamerson on one of the league's practice squad/COVID-19 lists.
Offensive lineman Chris Reed was placed on the same list last Tuesday.
With all 32 teams now with practice squads in place, an additional COVID-19 list has been created.
Being placed on a COVID-19 list means a player either tested positive for COVID-19 or was exposed to someone who had the virus. Teams are not allowed to share why a player was placed on the list.
Just yesterday the Panthers had defensive back Derrek Thomas come off the COVID-19 list and then waived him with an injury settlement related to a hamstring injury. He had been placed on injured reserve previously.
For the first month of training camp, the Panthers did not place a single player on the reserve/COVID-19 list. In the past two weeks, they have placed three. Of the five players currently on a COVID-19 list, two of them are Panthers.
From Aug. 30 Sep. 5 the NFL administered 17,519 tests to 2,641 players and administered 26,991 tests to 5,708 personnel. Of those tests, there was one new confirmed positive test among players and seven new confirmed positives among other personnel.
Each week, teams are allowed to choose four players on the practice squad to protect from being signed to another team's active roster. Jamerson is one of the four players that the Panthers chose to protect on the practice squad this week. Head coach Matt Rhule said the team made the decisions based on who they may make active for Sunday's season opener against the Raiders with teams allowed to add two practice squad players to the roster (from 53 to 55) for game day and have an additional two players (from 46 to 48) active.
The Panthers are now unable to protect an additional fourth player.
