The Carolina Panthers quarterback, Cam Newton, has been taken to hospital after he was involved in a car crash in Charlotte.
According to the Charlotte Observer, a truck flipped over in an accident early on Tuesday afternoon and Newton was injured in the wreck. The player was then taken to hospital as a precaution, where it was confirmed he had two fractures in his lower back.
“Mr Newton was involved in a two car collision on South Church street in Charlotte at approximately 12:30 today,” the Charlotte police said in a statement. “He and the driver of the other vehicle were both transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating the cause of the wreck.”

Newton was drafted No1 overall by the Panthers in the 2011 draft. His team have struggled this season but Newton was at his best on Sunday, throwing for three touchdowns and running for another, as the Panthers beat their NFC South rivals, the New Orleans Saints, 41-10.
