Carol Wright has confessed she was terrified of going under the knife to get a boob job after deciding to have cosmetic surgery to preempt back issues.
The 61-year-old reality star is the mother of 36-year-old daughter Jess, 34-year-old son Mark, 32-year-old son Josh and 21-year-old daughter Natalya.
Carol says her boobs were “emptied out” after having her first three children so went under the knife to add a boost to her bust.
But as she has grown older, she has feared that her larger breasts might damage her back and leave her with bad posture like her own mother – and so made the brave decision to go under the knife again after hitting 60.
Speaking to the panel on Loose Women, Carol said: “I did feel confident, but I just wanted to be more comfortable because they seemed to overweigh my body.
“I didn’t opt for these great big boobs that I had. I had them when I was younger after having three children and they just emptied out and I thought, ‘I need a little implant.’
“They lasted for so long and they were great, but all of a sudden I looked in the mirror one day and thought, “If I don’t go for this before I’m 60, I’ll never have the guts to do it.”
She explained that her own mother’s bad back inspired her to take action.
Carol said: “My mum’s posture wasn’t very good and I thought, ‘If I end up with the same posture as my mum…’ I was thinking, ‘They give me back ache’ because they’re so heavy.
“I’ve got a small frame, so they just didn’t suit me and I thought, ‘I want to be able to feel confident when I look in the mirror.’”
Carol went on to explain she did have cosmetic reasons for her procedure too.
She explained: “I personally was really uncomfortable when I looked in the mirror. I just thought, ‘I don’t want the position they’re in’’. I wanted to feel more confident. I thought, ‘If I don’t do it now, I’ll never do it.’”
She also went on to admit she was afraid about being operated on in later life.
She said: “I was embarrassed to let the children know but when I spoke to the girls, they agreed. All I was worried about was going under anaesthetic at such a late age. I was very scared.”
With her eldest daughter Jess and her blond son Josh both soon to become parents, Carol said there was an extra reason she was happy to have her breasts operated on.
She said: “Another reason this [her new breasts] is good is because they’re smaller, so I can pick them up more.”
During her Loose Women chat, Carol also addressed her son Mark’s recent cancer scare.
The reality star had an operation last year to remove a tumour that had grown under his arm prompting fears it could be cancer.
Carol said: “It’s been going on for a while now and we didn’t really worry about it because my husband has got the same lump but much smaller under his arms. So he used to say, ‘It’s the same sort of lump I’ve got, Mark.’ There’s nothing wrong with it.”
She added: “Finally, it started to grow and when he told us it was growing, we became concerned. It wasn’t until the night before he was going in for the operation that I lay in bed with my husband and said, ‘Say this is serious?’ and my husband reassured me and said, ‘No, he’s going to be fine’ because that’s the way my husband deals with things.
“And I lay awake that night thinking, ‘My god, what would we do if it’s actually cancer?’ Thank god it wasn’t and it was successful, and it’s been cut out… It wasn’t cancerous. It was very big though, very big.”
Mark has already spoken about his health battle – and his relief at being told the growth was not cancerous after it was removed.
