Carol Vorderman vows to be on the telly less after 'difficult' lockdown

Carol Vorderman has revealed she's hoping we see a lot less her of her on the television now that's reached her sixties.

The maths whizz admitted she still feels 20 years old and wants to embrace freedom after lockdown.

Carol, who made her first appearance on Countdown almost 40 years ago, said that after decades of working in showbiz the pandemic has changed her mindset.

"I'm not that bothered about being on the telly. I worked my butt off last year and I don't want to do it," she explained.

"I found lockdown difficult - like everybody. I was not well. Tired beyond tired. So in January I said to my agent, 'I'm going to concentrate on my health.'

Twice-married Carol added: "I was a good daughter to my mum until she died in 2017, and I've looked after my kids, Katie, 29, and 24-year-old Cameron. So it's like... what shall I do?"

The Pride of Britain host has been busy working with Swansea and Cambridge universities giving away bursaries to pupils from deprived backgrounds.

"I want to do even more. My old school in Rhyl is still 50 per cent free school meals. I'm going to be doing a lot with them."

The TV star has also gone back to education herself after becoming a student of gerontology - the study of ageing.

"If my 50s were about the menopause, the 60s are about...I love my life so much, I want to carry on like this," she said.

Revealing her top tips for her famously age-defying looks, Carol said she relies on controlled fasting and vitamin supplements to keep her figure in top shape.

“I’m very healthy and fit. I do 16/8 intermittent fasting and I’m in the gym doing weights three times a week.

“I’ve told my trainer I’ve got three things I want to do by the end of the year – a full press-up, a handstand and the splits!”

In 2017 Carol made headlines when she appeared on the Lorraine Kelly show to speak about her severe menopausal depression.

Carol said finally being prescribed HRT was a 'miracle.'

“I’m not still on HRT gel – I came off it two years ago. And then very occasionally I think, ‘Ooh I’ll have another squirt of that gel and see what happens.’ But I don’t feel I need it.

"I’m not on any medication, which is rare for someone my age,” she reveals. “But I do take a lot of vitamin and mineral supplements – the new advanced ones on the market.”
