Carol Vorderman says she laughs more than ever now she's single

Carol Vorderman has touted the benefits of single life, revealing she’s never been happier.

Speaking to Closer, the former Countdown co-host, who split from pilot Graham Duff in 2016, explained she “loves” being single.

“Now I know what makes me happy. I love being single,” Vorderman said.

“I laugh more than I have ever laughed – I have my kids, my family and my brilliant friends. I’m just very happy.”

The TV host, who has two children with her ex-husband Patrick King, went on to explain that she knows what she wants from a romantic partner and won't settle for anything less.

"I have a simple formula. If someone or something makes me feel anxious, or gives off a bad vibe, I'll drop it like a stone."

Vorderman's comments come after similar ones made by Oprah Winfrey, who recently said she has "no regrets" for choosing not to marry or have children.

The 65-year-old talk show host has been in a relationship with long-time partner Stedman Graham for 33 years.

Though the couple got engaged in 1992, they have never tied the knot or expanded their family.

Speaking to People magazine, Winfrey revealed that she did consider becoming a mother following Graham’s proposal, but ultimately felt it wasn't for her, citing “the depth of responsibility and sacrifice that is actually required to be a mother”.

The philanthropist explained that doing her eponymous talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, put her off motherhood.

“I realised, ‘Whoa, I’m talking to a lot of messed-up people, and they are messed up because they had mothers and fathers who were not aware of how serious that job is.

“I don’t have the ability to compartmentalise the way I see other women do. It is why, throughout my years, I have had the highest regard for women who choose to be at home [with] their kids, because I don’t know how you do that all day long. Nobody gives women the credit they deserve.”
