Carol Vorderman's pride as son with learning disabilities earns master's degree

Carol Vorderman is one proud mum after her son, Cameron, earned a master's degree despite "endless bullying" at school due to his severe learning disabilities.

The former Countdown host, 60, posted a vid of the 24-year-old with the caption "The Master" as she opened up about his struggle.

Alongside a photo of Cameron as a child Carol wrote: "My son was a happy toddler. Before and after he started school it became clear that he had severe special educational needs.

"No school would accept him. I was going to give up work to teach him but even I couldn't teach a child with his severe needs."

She followed up in a video: "He struggled, and when I say struggled, it was off the scale. I had to find him a special school, if you like."

Carol explained that while Cameron was "super bright", he required extra help.

"It's hard for these kids. They get bullied and told they're 'odd' when really they have a superpower, they see the world a different way," she explained.

"Cam stuck with it, through endless bullying, changed school, developed strategies to learn.

"He got a first class honours degree in animation, and now he has just received his master's degree in animation and video effects.

"I could not be more proud of him and I love him to bits, but I'm also a very proud mum because I know just how much he struggled to get there."

The maths whizz, who is also mum to daughter Katie, told fans she'd "learned so much" from her son, including "patience, kindness, perseverance and calmness".

She concluded her proud post with a video reminding people to be patient with those who have different needs, saying that all it takes is a 'bit more time'.

"I suppose the message is for all those with special educational needs, it just sometimes takes a little bit more time, but they can get there in the end," Carol concluded.

Carol admitted that she'd kept her son's story private until now and "protected him like a lioness" until he was able to "walk his own walk."

Revealing that in fact now Cameron was "flying high" Carol's uplifting post went down well with her followers.

"Well done Cameron! And to you Carol! you clearly are an incredible mother," said one.

While another posted: "I love this, such inspiration, I am going through the same journey with my boy and gives me hope that there is light at the end of what has been at times a very dark tunnel - Thank you."
