Carol Vorderman reveals she has been trolled for her looks for almost 20 years

Former Countdown star, and Bristol resident, Carol Vorderman has discussed how being trolled for her looks, and agesim and sexism in the media, has followed her around for almost 20 years.

Speaking on This Morning the maths-whizz, now 58, said she had been the subject of negative comments since she wore an above the knee dress aged 39.

The dress in question was worn by Carol to the Baftas in May 2000, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Speaking about that time on the daytime TV show, Carol said: “Twenty years ago I wore a blue dress to Baftas which was above the knee. I was 39.

“That became a massive story and there were programmes made about it. Not about the dress - it was about whether a woman aged 39 should wear a dress above the knee.

“I was called mutton dressed as lamb - would you call a 39-year-old that today because she wears a dress above the knee? Of course you wouldn’t, that’s nonsense.”

Today Carol said that despite being on the receiving end of constant criticism about her appearance, her attitude hasn’t changed one bit.

She continued: “What is age appropriate? Surely it’s about the spirit of somebody, that’s what this survey says. The stuff about ageism and gender remarks, sexism, they’re from another time.

“The point about ageism and ageist remarks is, they belong to the last century. I get it all the time.

“Has my attitude changed? No.”

Last week Carol shared a photo of herself on social media of her new haircut but was immediately subjected to lewd and crude comments from followers objectifying her figure.

This Morning is on ITV1 weekdays, from 10:30am
