If you could choose anyone to be your child’s maths tutor, Carol Vorderman would probably be near the top of the list.
In which case parents will be delighted to know that the former Countdown star is offering free classes to primary school aged children during the coronavirus outbreak.
The numbers whizz has announced that she is removing the paywall on The Maths Factor, which is her tutorial website for children.
Carol, 59, appeared on Good Morning Britain today to explain why her reason behind offering the service for free - which is usually £2 per week.
She told hosts Piers Morgan and Lorraine Kelly: "We have made it free for all children in primary school for as long as it takes, until they can go back to school.
"This isn't a 'What can you do on a rainy Sunday afternoon?' - this is six months without education.
"What The Maths Factor is - and of all the books and things I have ever done, this is the thing of which I am the most proud.
“Just doing four sessions with Auntie Carol a week takes about 15 minutes - a child will advance two and a half years in one year."
The website was created by Carol in 2010 to help build children’s and their parents’ maths confidence by using short video tutorials, interactive games and other resources.
Launching the initiative, Carol said: “As we enter what may be a stressful and unsettled time for many, it’s so important that we keep a level of normality in place for our children. Yes schools are closed, but learning will go on.”
The news comes after Joe Wicks, aka The Body Coach, announced he would be hosting live PE lessons on his YouTube every day to keep kids fit and healthy.
The first class attracted more than 800,000 families across the globe.
Author David Walliams is also offering free children’s stories every day for 30 days to help keep youngsters entertained.
