Carol Vorderman fans react as she shares brilliant throwback video reel exactly 40 years since her TV debut

Carol Vorderman has celebrated her 40th year on screen with a post on social media. The former Countdown mathmetician, 61, marked both her own anniversary and Channel 4 's with a video of some of her TV highlights including the Pride of Britain Awards, Find A Fortune and Strictly Come Dancing.

Carol captioned the video: "FORTY YEARS OF ME ON THE TELLY," accompanied by an apt TV emoji. She added: On November 2nd 1982 I made my first TV appearance. On Countdown. Which was the first show on a new channel, yes @Channel4. Happy birthday Channel 4 and Countdown… And happy TV birthday to [me]."

Upon posting the highlights reel - which also shows her performing as Cher on Stars In Their Eyes - Carol was met with a barrage of congratulatory comments. Her TV 'birthday' comes a day after she dressed as 'Lady Voldemort' for Halloween, which you can read about here.

"Happy 40th TV Anniversary Carol, although you must have only been about 10 when you started," wrote one fan who commemorated the presenter's momentous occasion. Meanwhile, a second commented: "Great career Carol, takes some doing longevity," and a third said: "You haven't changed one bit."

She was also met with comments suggesting that her appearance has improved with age. A fourth person wrote: "You have improved with age!!" and another added humorously, "But you're only 28."

As seen in the video, Carol's career began on Channel 4's Countdown in which she first worked opposite Richard Whiteley. She would go on to work with both Des O'Connor and Des Lynam before leaving the show in 2008. Since then, she has continued to work across TV screens and made appearances on the likes of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, Loose Women and ITV's Lorraine.
