Carol Vorderman 'dating five men' after stunning fans with 'special friends' admission

Carol Vorderman has admitted she is 'dating five men' months after her 'special friends' admission sparked a big reaction. Back in October, the former Countdown host discussed her approach to romance after answering a caller’s questions about casual dating on This Morning.

Opening up about her own love life, Carol shared how concerns around casual dating were a "nonsense taboo that should be broken." At the time she added: "I’ve never felt freer. So I have ignored the looking for one person and I have a number of what I’ve called 'special friends.'"

But Carol's mention of her 'special friends' became too much for fans of the ITV daytime show as they flocked to social media to comment. However, the response hasn't held Carol back as she has now shared how she’s currently dating five different men – but doesn't do one-night stands.

During a recent appearance on Michelle Visage’s podcast, Rule Breakers, Carol was asked if she was currently in a relationship, to which the 62-year-old quite simply replied: "No!" She then continued: “I’m having the best time. I’ve spoken about this once. I have a system which I’ve had for 10 years. They’re called ‘special friends.'"

Carol continued: "I spoke a couple of months ago about having ‘special friends’ and it was like, again, the world had fallen in for some people but actually what I found was there was an awful lot of women who said ‘I’d never thought about it like this."

The TV star then went on to explain that she's been in 'long-term relationships if you like' with her special friends as she has been dating some of them for many years. "One's 11 years, one's seven years, you know everyone is single," she shared. "It's a happy place. I hasten to add I'm not into one night stands," Carol said.

Carol previously spoke about her 'special friends' on This Morning (ITV)

"The language around a woman of my generation is that if you had more than one partner when you got married you were this you were that. Everything was derogatory about a woman, that was the environment I was growing up in. It was like 'she's desperate', everything was judgmental."

Carol his previously been married. She first tied the knot in 1985, at age 24, with Christopher Mather, a Royal Navy officer, but the pair split after just 12 months together. She then went on to marry management consultant Patrick King in 1990 with the couple having two children together before going their separate ways in 2000.

During her previously mentioned appearance on This Morning, Carol said: "I don’t really want to marry again. I don’t really want to live with a man again. Have to look after him all the time."
