Carntyne Road closed as overhead cable falls on street

Part of Carntyne Road has been closed in the east end of Glasgow this morning with an overhead cable having fallen on the street.

The road has been closed at the junction of Myreside Street.

Police are currently in attendance and it is unclear when the road restriction will be lifted.

A statement issued by Glasgow City Council's Traffic Control and Management team (TRAFFCOM) shortly after 7am this morning (Monday) said: "Due to an overhead cable that has fallen on the road, Carntyne Road is closed at the junction of Myreside Street until further notice.

"Police are in attendance and road users should follow their direction.

"Further bulletins will be issued as more information becomes available."

There is potential for traffic and travel chaos this morning, with the city under two weather warnings and a flood alert.

With the UK set to be battered by Storm Brendan, Glasgow is forecast to be inundated with heavy rain and strong winds throughout the day.

UPDATE 9.15am - The road has now reopened.
