Consent is already in place for residential development across the wider site, with its masterplan also including upgrading work on Carnbroe Road.
Representatives of Taylor Wimpey say their development would create 160 construction jobs per year of building on the site.
Their plans include detached, semi-detached and terraced houses ranging from two to four bedrooms; along with a playpark, shared surfaces giving pedestrians priority, open space and “home zones to create natural areas of focus at key points”.
Colin Blair, who is Taylor Wimpey West Scotland’s technical director, said: “This would see our return to this area of North Lanarkshire and represents a significant and continued investment in the area.
“Our proposal to deliver 288 new homes at Carnbroe forms a key part of a wider vision for the area, and we look forward to positive discussions with the local authority in order to progress this development.
“As well playing our part in the delivery of new homes, our development would provide a range of economic benefits which include supporting over 160 jobs per year of construction [and] the attraction of new customers to local businesses.”
