Nobody ever said winning a championship was easy — especially when $2 Million dollars is on the line in the winner take all format of The Basketball Tournament.
Carmen’s Crew got out to a hot start against the Golden Eagles in the finals, leading by a score of 16-8 after the first quarter. But then things got tight in the second quarter and it continued to be a white-knuckle affair all the way to the very end.
It was a game that went back and forth until Ohio State set the Elam Ending target score at 66 when it called timeout with a razor thin 58-57 tenuous lead.
The two teams then traded buckets to make it 60-60 when the team of mostly former Buckeyes went on a mini four-point run to pull within two points of the pot of riches that goes along with winning the best summer basketball tournament out there.
Then, with the score 64-60, William Buford was fouled grabbing a rebound and had two shots to win it all. He nailed one, then knocked down the second for the championship winning score of 66-60.
