Carmen’s Crew breezes by Big X in TBT second round game

The Ohio State alumni team taking part in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) advanced by the No. 4 seed in the Midwest, Big X in second round action Saturday. Known as Carmen’s Crew this year, the team used a combination of outside shooting and interior post ups to win easily 89-75.

Former Ohio State guard William Buford paced Carmen’s Crew with 24 points, going 6 of 6 from beyond the arc. Big X put up a fight, going up by eleven points early, but couldn’t hold the lead once the former OSU players began to hit their stride. Carmen’s Crew went into halftime with a one-point lead, then exerted its advantage with experience and skill in the second half.

Former Buckeyes Keyshawn Woods and C.J. Jackson, it means the end to their tournament run. They both found their way on Big X, but the team coached by another former Buckeye Andrew Dakich, had to deal with personnel issues and a hot team.

With the win, Carmen’s Crew will now face off against the No. 3 seeded Dayton alumni team Red Scare who advanced earlier in the day. It’ll be a bit of a rematch between the the Flyers and Buckeyes first round NCAA matchup in 2014. Dayton won that day in an upset 60-59.

The game will be on ESPN once again Sunday at Noon. The arena should be packed and raucous.
