OKLAHOMA CITY _ Carmelo Anthony was looking forward to a relaxing All-Star break in a warm weather destination. He'll have to settle for a trip to New Orleans.
Anthony was chosen to replace injured Cavaliers forward Kevin Love in Sunday's NBA All-Star Game. NBA commissioner Adam Silver picked Anthony to be Love's replacement. Ironically, the Knicks reportedly have been trying to trade Anthony for Love.
This will mark Anthony's 10th NBA All-Star selection, and eighth straight. He was selected a starter the previous seven years, and has now made it every season with the Knicks.
The announcement came during the Knicks-Thunder game so Anthony was unavailable for comment. But Anthony had said he already booked a hotel and was leaning toward taking a vacation.
"That's still my case," Anthony said at the morning shootaround. "When they call I would have to really talk to them and discuss that."
Anthony is a vice president for the NBA Players Union, but he was planning to miss the annual meeting over All-Star weekend. Now he can be there too.
