Carmarthenshire pub ordered to close for 14 days - three days before fire-break lockdown

Another Carmarthenshire pub has just been given a 14-day closure notice for breaching Covid-19 rules, despite the fire-break lockdown coming into force on Friday, October 23.

Tafarn yr Oen, also known as The Lamb Inn, in the village of Blaenwaun, was served the closure notice on Tuesday, October 20, after council enforcement officers found that the pub was not complying to all the relevant Covid-19 regulations.

The pub follows a long list of businesses that have been given improvement orders, 48 hour, seven-day or 14-day closure notices for breaching Covid-19 rules from Carmarthenshire Council.

However, unlike other businesses that have served closure notices, the pub, located eight miles north of Whitland, was already due to close by 6pm this Friday due to the fire-break lockdown.

As part of the fire-break lockdown, all pubs, bars and other businesses in the hospitality industry must close until Monday, November 9.

The lockdown is described as a short, sharp 'circuit-breaker' which hopes to help slow down the virus.

Some of the other rules under the fire-break are:

  • People must stay at home, except for very limited purposes.
  • People must not visit other households or meet other people they do not live with.
  • Certain businesses and venues, including bars, restaurants and most shops must close
  • Secondary schools will provide learning online only for the week after half-term, other than for children in years seven and eight. Primary schools and childcare settings will remain open.
  • Face coverings continue to be mandatory in the indoor public spaces that remain open (subject to certain exemptions and exceptions), including on public transport and in taxis

But despite the upcoming lockdown, enforcement officers have still been checking on businesses to ensure that the necessary protocols are being followed.

Officials say that while the majority of licensed venues have been enforcing all necessary procedures, a small number of businesses have had to be given closure notices after falling short.

It is currently not known whether the pub will serve its closure notice during the lockdown or whether it will be carried until after November, 9 when lockdown is over.
