Welsh beach and nature reserve left strewn with rubbish

Another sunny day... another beach left covered in litter.

Revellers left a Carmarthenshire beauty spot covered in bottles, cans, plastic, cardboard and other rubbish after gathering on the sand to party on Saturday night.

Angry residents have tidied away much of the mess on Llanelli beach next to the nature reserve, but much remains.

One resident said: "After any lovely evening we wake up to this each time.

"The car park fills up in an evening with young folk generally wrecking the environment, leaving their litter not only on the beach but also in the nature reserve area above the beach.

"They carry all of it down full, but can't be bothered to put the empties in a bin.

"Some of the bottle are broken so there's a risk to pets and children too. It does make you wonder how many are drink driving.

"I only had one bag with me so I could only clear up so much. A lot will get washed away with the tide, when we should be protecting the living seas. It really makes you mad".

This is just the latest incident where huge amounts of rubbish have been left behind by revellers making the most of the holiday sunshine, and the easing of lockdown.

Large crowds gathered in Cardiff Bay on the evening of Good Friday for what was described as a "massive party".

Council workers took more than three hours to clear up the mess left around the Senedd building after the party.

Earlier in the week groups of up to 100 teenagers were found gathering near the coastal path in Burry Port.

The area between the harbour and the Shoreline caravan park were left with large amounts of litter and alcohol bottles left behind and damage caused by fires in the sand dunes.

Staff at The Secret Bar and Kitchen and volunteers have been doing daily little picks on the beachfront in Swansea, which they blamed on "an upturn in the weather and a slight relaxation of lockdown rules".
