Carly McBride murder trial: injuries caused massive bleeding

MISSED: Carly McBride was last seen at Calgaroo Avenue at Muswellbrook on September 30, 2014. Her remains were found in bush outside Scone nearly two years later. Sayle Newson has been charged with her murder and is currently on trial in Newcastle Supreme Court.

A FORENSIC pathologist has told a jury the injuries suffered by Carly McBride would have caused "substantial" bleeding and if they were inflicted by a fist then the killer would likely have suffered multiple injuries to their hands.

Sayle Kenneth Newson, 43, Ms McBride's boyfriend of about eight weeks at the time of her disappearance, is on trial in Newcastle Supreme Court accused of murdering Ms McBride at Muswellbrook on September 30, 2014, and dumping her body in bush about 25 metres from Bunnan Road at Owens Gap.

ACCUSED: Sayle Newson, Carly McBride's boyfriend of about eight weeks.

The prosecution allege Mr Newson - who Crown prosecutor Lee Carr said had competed in a number of professional Muay Thai fights - intercepted Ms McBride after she left a visit with her daughter and killed her by inflicting a number of blows to her head and back.

Ms McBride's body was found nearly two years later in August 2016. The prosecution closed its case on Monday, with the defence calling consulting forensic pathologist Professor Johan Duflou as their only witness.
