Carluke Rovers' James Miller in dilemma over football's return

Carluke Rovers midfielder James Miller admits players are in a “catch-22” situation over football’s return.

The West of Scotland League remains suspended and while players want to get back playing, Miller admits the wait is frustrating.

He said: “It’s a catch-22 situation because if a decision was made just now then the season would probably be cancelled.

"Nobody wants it to be cancelled but players also want a date over when they could be back playing again.”

“It’s really frustrating. The fact that it’s stopped then it returns before it stops again.

“We’ve only played ten games and we’ve not started off too well so I can imagine it’s more frustrating for clubs who’ve gone on a decent run.

“I absolutely love football so I want to keep playing but I completely understand the circumstances.

"With everything going on, it’s blatantly obvious that we need to look after people’s health first.

“I’d love to finish the season but sometimes you need to think of the bigger picture.

During the first lockdown, the weather was far more conducive to outside training compared to current winter conditions.

Carluke Rovers boss Mark Weir (Kevin Ramage)

He said: “I’ve been doing circuit training to keep as fit as possible. Football training is completely different from any other training.

“You can do weight training or running but it doesn’t really help you stay match fit. You can’t get that fitness without playing football.

“In the summer, loads of people were able to do 5k runs but it’s not game related. It’s really difficult to train without a ball and on your own.”
