Carluke Rovers claim draw with nine men in 'typical derby'

Mark Weir said it was a ‘typical derby’ as nine-man Carluke Rovers fought back to draw 2-2 away to Forth Wanderers on Saturday.

The game was switched due to heavy rain, with Wanderers the hosts and Rovers took an early lead through an Eddie Haley penalty.

Forth replied with an own-goal and a strike by Josh McDonald, before another own goal earned Carluke a point.

Rovers were reduced to nine men late on as goalkeeper Josh Kane was shown a straight red card for allegedly handling outside his box, while Dillon Duddy picked up two bookings for a dive and a ‘show of aggression’ as he punched the turf in frustration.

Weir said: “It was a typical derby game!

“I thought we started really well in the first 20 minutes and deservedly went ahead.

“But after that we fell right out the game, Forth came right into it, and in the last 10 to 15 minutes we started coming back into it slightly and got the equaliser, so overall a point was probably the fair result.

"That’s me got two players out for the next league game.

“It leaves me another two short and I’m at the bare bones just now with injuries and people self-isolating and different things, so it’s not ideal.”

Rovers now travel to Whitehil Welfare in the SoccerShop Challenge Cup second round on Saturday and Weir said: “We’ll treat it just as a normal game, and you never know what can happen in the 90 minutes.

“It would be massive to get through.”
