Carluke Rovers boss blasts defender after derby day red card

Carluke Rovers boss Mark Weir blasted defender Gary Livingston for his sending off in their derby defeat to Wishaw.

Despite being pleased by the performance, the gaffer admits Rovers were let down by two quick-fire bookings for their vice-captain.

He said: “I thought we started the game well but then Gary Livingston sent off for two bookings in the first 25 minutes.

“We played around 65 minutes with 10 men, and I was very impressed with our commitment, our attitude and our work with the 10 guys.

“In the end I was a bit deflated with not taking at least a point. I thought we still deserved the three with the 10 men.”

On the sending off, Weir added: “I can’t really say anything on it, yes it was a red card.

“Two bookings back to back and I thought he had to go.

“To be honest, I thought he was lucky to get away with his first one, and to go into a similar challenge two minutes later just isn’t acceptable.

“He should know better as one of the senior players and the vice-captain at the club.

“I have let him know that I’m not happy.

“The rest of the guys I can’t fault at all. The substitutes gave their all for the team and, if I’m honest, we had enough chances to win the game by two or three.”

Weir believes Rovers will get their rewards against Johnstone Burgh this weekend if they reach the same standards.

He continued: “If we can maintain that standard for the rest of the season, and keep 11 players on the park, we will get the results.

“We expect Johnstone not to give us time on the ball and be right in our faces.”

Weir added that discussions have taken place for the fixture to be reversed to the John Cumming Stadium, with work taking place at James Keanie Park.

He added: “I’m not too bothered where we are playing, as long as the game goes ahead on Saturday.

“After the performance against Wishaw I’m just happy to be back playing football and trying to get the results.”
