Carluke Rovers’ boss Mark Weir has backed plans for the West of Scotland League restructuring while the junior game is on hold.
Talks have taken place between the West Region sides, the SJFA and the Lowland League with plans for a new tier six on the table.
Clubs have until the end of the month to announce their interest, and Weir reckons it would be a positive move.
He said: “In my opinion it’s a good time to do it and it’s a good idea.
“For us as a club, it’s for the committee to decide whether they put us forward but from the snippets I’ve heard so far about it, I’m all for it.
“There is so much going on in the game and we don’t know if we will be able to finish the season, or if teams can be promoted or relegated. To me it seems like a good time.”
Weir has encouraged his players to keep fit during their down time in the hope that Rovers are able to complete the current campaign.
He added: “I’m still working on plans for next season and there is plans to get an under-20 team set up that can lead into the first team.
“We are looking ahead to next season because we don’t have many games left and anything really to play for now. We want to build a pathway for young players.
“My focus is still on the first team, though, rather than the youth team.
“I’ve asked them to keep themselves fit as best they can while we still don’t know what is happening.
“We had hoped to train but obviously we can’t now.”
