Carluke boss looks to ex-Dumbarton star after St Cadoc's thrashing

Furious Carluke Rovers boss Mark Weir hopes new signing Garry Fleming can help get the club out of a rut after suffering a 7-0 thrashing at home to St Cadoc’s last week.

Weir watched his side endure a second half collapse as the visitors to the John Cumming Stadium added six goals to their tally, having gone in just one goal to the good at half-time.

And now the Rovers gaffer hopes ex-Dumbarton and Irvine Meadow midfielder Fleming can provide vital experience to turn their West of Scotland Conference B season around.

Weir, whose side have won once in seven games, said: “To have a second half result like that is unacceptable.

“I’m not putting up with that performance - end of.

"I’ve brought in Garry Fleming to help us.

“He had to sit out Saturday as he was carrying a suspension from last season, but he is now available and I can tell you he’ll be getting chucked straight in from the start this Saturday.

“With his experience, I just hope the young boys - and even the senior players - will take on board what he says. They can speak to him about things and he’ll give us a bit of organisation.

“We didn’t have a very nice Saturday night and on Monday we had a meeting to clear the air about a few issues. Several senior players can’t pinpoint where it’s going wrong, so we’ve got a bit of a headache at the moment.

“But I’m sure myself and my staff will resolve the problem.”

Carluke now head to league leaders Neilston on Saturday, hoping to end 2020 with a victory.

Weir added: “It doesn’t get any easier, going away to Neilston on Saturday, a side top of the league.

"We are in a bit of a rut at the moment but we’ll get out of it.

“You like to win every game, but with us in this wee rut it would be nice to end 2020 with a win. It’s been a tough year with the pandemic and everything else, so we want to go into 2021 ready to make a fresh start.”
