Carluke boss hoping to mount title challenge after signing spree

Boss Mark Weir believes Carluke Rovers can mount a challenge for the Conference B title and promotion to the West of Scotland League top flight.

The gaffer has moved quickly to boost his ranks during the lockdown, bringing in goalkeeper Daniel Terry from Stenhousemuir and striker Lewis McDougall from local rivals Lesmahagow.

Weir reckons they will compete with the top teams in the new set-up as they aim for first-time promotion to tier six.

He said: “No matter what is happening with the football I need to focus on bringing in the right guys.

“Daniel will be able to provide competition for the number one spot and I know Lewis personally from having played with him and he’s a handful.

“We are still looking for another couple of guys and I’ll be looking to run with a squad of about 19 players. With our under-21 side running this season as well we should have a strong group.

“We know some of the teams because they have been in our league and move to the conference with us. I’m excited about the way the squad is shaping up and think we will be able to build a challenge for promotion.

“As soon as we can get back to training we will be back to training. We want to make sure the fitness levels are there and see where we are now.

“It’s an exciting time for us as a club.”
