Carluke boss fears fan return in West of Scotland League will be delayed

Carluke Rovers boss Mark Weir this week voiced his concerns that there may be a delay in fans being allowed in to West of Scotland League matches.

Weir says supporters are the lifeblood of clubs at that level, and reckons Rovers will be feeling the pinch with a much-reduced income on a Saturday.

He said: “I’m very concerned.

“Teams like ourselves and many more rely on a bit of support coming through the gates on a Saturday, with them buying a pie and Bovril, so it’s concerning in a big way.

“Lanarkshire is in lockdown as well, so that’s another spanner thrown in the works.

“But I’m just glad that we’re more than halfway there, with our first friendly played against Fauldhouse on Saturday.

“It’s magic to get games back; the guys have been working so hard over the past few weeks now, and they’re needing some game-time, so hopefully we can get that done and see what happens after that.”

Weir hopes to have a number of friendlies played as Rovers prepare for life in Conference B, and says he’ll take what he can get at this point, even if his training schedule is cut back.

He added: “We have other friendlies lined up to take care of.

“I had six lined up, I’ve got one cancellation already just due to the distance that they were going to be travelling, but I’m looking to get someone to take that place.

“As many friendlies as we can get, I’ll be getting them, but if it’s only the one we can get done, then we’ll persevere with it.”
