'It looked like I was pregnant' - Carlton dad goes from 'couch potato' to fighting fit in just a matter of weeks

A 47-year-old man from Carlton has explained how he's gone from being a 'couch potato' to fighting fit in just a matter of weeks.

Dad Andy Morley dropped from 12 to nine-and-a-half stone over 14 weeks.

"If you put your mind to it anything's possible," he said. "And I never believed it until I started doing it. It's all about discipling yourself."

Mr Morley, of Station Road, who works in maintenance, explained he used to have a tendency to snack.

By his own admission he was "quite overweight" and had "left myself go".

But he was determined to get himself in better shape.

He has been working with personal trainer John Clarke, 40, owner of PF Aesthetics gym, in Willoughby Street, Lenton.

"Until I met John, I'd never, ever been in the gym in my life. Until December," said Mr Morley.

He trains five times a week and has worked on improving his diet.

"I'm incredibly fit now. My weight it was like about 12 stone. I'm only 5ft 5 ins and it looked like I was pregnant.

"I had no energy whatsoever. And now I'm now I'm down to nine-and-a-half stone in 14 weeks."

He added: "This weekend I'm running my first 10k race.

"So I've gone from a couch potato to running a 10k race again in 14 weeks. I'm hoping to do it in under an hour."

Speaking of the impact of Mr Clarke, Mr Morley said: "The guy's an absolute genius, I can't praise the guy enough.

"He deserves just as much credit in this... I can't stress enough how much John has helped me on this journey.

"Honestly, he's literally changed my life."

Mr Clarke said when Mr Morley first joined his client was a smoker with a lack of confidence.

"Our first session I think lasted 10-15 minutes. He basically couldn't get his breath," said the personal trainer.

"The first thing I thought was 'I need to end the session'. Just from the work that I do, this guy had 'heart attack' written all over him.

"(He was) a smoker, drinking, didn't do any exercise, in his 40s, eating junk food."

Mr Clarke explained he introduced Mr Morley to cardiovascular exercise, to work on his heart rate, before Mr Morley started to weight train.

Mr Clarke, or Carlton, added: "He's done the hard work. He keeps thanking me constantly and I said to him 'it's you who's done the whole work'."

Nottinghamshire Live reported in November how Mr Clarke helped another client, who survived a horror crash, get into prime shape.
