Carlow boss Turlough O'Brien said to be 'very disappointed' touchline ban will prevent him from being on sideline this summer

Carlow boss Turlough O'Brien is said to be "very disappointed" with the 20-week ban that will prevent him from being on the sideline for the Leinster opener against Meath on Saturday week.

O'Brien, who led the county to the Leinster semi-finals last year, was banned for 'threatening conduct towards a referee' at end of their Division 3 defeat to Down at the end of March.

Coach Steven Poacher and star player Brendan Murphy were slapped with 12-week bans.

"Of course he's very disappointed with the whole thing," said Carlow selector Tommy Wogan of O'Brien.

"In my own personal view, people need to walk in the footsteps of an inter-county manager to understand the frustrations of Turlough and Steven and the time and the effort that gores into it.

"They've put phenomenal work into it and based on poor decisions our season had drifted away.

"You're talking about two poor refereeing decisions possibly costing us staying in the division. That was our goal to stay in the division, bigger than anything in the championship".
