Carlos Vinicius' first words as a Spurs player after completing loan move from Benfica

Carlos Vinicus has said in a very brief 12-second video that he and Spurs will “taste success” after completing his loan move for the season from Benfica.

The frontman has been Mourinho's main target for the role to provide backup and support to Harry Kane this summer. Spurs initially moved for the 25-year-old earlier in the window but Benfica's price tag was closer to the £50million mark.

However, the Portuguese side's failure to get through the Champions League qualification stages changed matters.

Spurs returned for the player and tied up a deal, leading to a very happy manager in Jose Mourinho who has been craving a second striker.

In a video posted on the Spurs official twitter account, Vinicius said in Portuguese: “I wanted to say to everyone that together we’ll taste success.

“I am here to join this family to share your joy and bring home silverware.”

Benfica confirmed late on Thursday night that they agreed to loan Carlos Vinicius to Spurs for the season for £2.73m. They also revealed that Tottenham then have an option to purchase him for roughly a further £38m.

The Brazilian had a real breakthrough season with Benfica in the last campaign with 24 goals and 13 assists in 47 games for the Portuguese side.

With Vinicius playing in European competition last season, there are no problems expected with a work permit. While the move has been completed before Sunday's trip to face Manchester United at Old Trafford, it is not in time for him to be registered for the match.

Football.london understands that Vinicius will not be able to play against Manchester United this weekend. Obtaining his work permit will be a formality however and he will be available to Mourinho after the upcoming international break.
