Carlos Sanchez could make West Ham return against Tottenham after six months out

West Ham midfielder Carlos Sanchez could make his comeback against Tottenham on Saturday after six months out with a knee injury.

The Colombia international arrived from Fiorentina last summer but played just six times before he suffered knee ligament damage against Macclesfield in October.

Sanchez had surgery and it was feared he would miss the rest of the season but the 33-year-old, who played against England at last summer’s World Cup, has returned to training and is pushing to be included in the West Ham squad to face Spurs this weekend.

Lengthy injuries to Sanchez and Jack Wilshere have left West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini short of midfield options this season and presented an opportunity for Declan Rice to establish himself in the team.

Wilshere is also fit again and returned from his latest ankle injury off the bench against Leicester City last weekend for a first West Ham appearance since December.

Pellegrini hopes Samir Nasri will be fit before the end of the season as West Ham weigh up whether to offer the 31-year-old midfielder a new contract in the summer.

Nasri signed a six-month deal in January but has made just four starts and two substitute appearances because of persistent calf problems.

He aggravated the injury during the half-time warm-up at Chelsea earlier this month but Pellegrini hopes he will be back this season.
