Carlos Sainz to miss Brazilian Grand Prix media day due to illness

Williams Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz is set to miss the media day ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix after being struck down with illness.

"Unfortunately Carlos is unwell and will not be coming to track today," the Grove outfit confirmed.

Heading into the final four rounds of the 2025 season, the Spanish driver sits 11th in the drivers' standings with 38 points.

"Heading to Brazil for what will be another sprint weekend, I’m looking forward to driving around this iconic track where anything can happen," Sainz explained in the team's race weekend preview.

"Being a Sprint, we’ll be limited on practice sessions, so we’ll look to get up to speed early on car setup. Sao Paulo weather always plays a part across the weekend, so we’ll look to capitalise on any opportunities we can.

"The Brazilian fans are so passionate about F1, so it’s always a great week with a lot of support!"

The team is yet to confirm whether Sainz will return to the track tomorrow. The Brazilian Grand Prix will host the penultimate sprint race of the season, meaning there will be just one practice session ahead of sprint qualifying, the sprint race, grand prix qualifying and grand prix.

Williams is bringing a Gulf livery to the race weekend at Interlagos, "celebrating the passion and emotion that personifies racing at the pinnacle of motorsport". It features 493 words from fans around the world, which they associate with Williams and Gulf.

“As an iconic Formula 1 team with a Championship-winning legacy and a plan to win again, we know Atlassian Williams Racing means so much to our millions of fans around the world," team principal James Vowles said.

"This incredible livery campaign with Gulf has really brought that to life, and it will be a privilege to race every lap in Brazil with the passion and emotion of our fans woven into this beautiful design on the car.”
