Carlos Pena finally banishes Rangers demons as he puts an end to unwanted three-year record

Rangers flop Carlos Pena has ended an unwanted record after scoring for the first time in three years.

The midfielder moved to Ibrox in the summer of 2017 as one of Pedro Caixinha 's signings but had a difficult time in Glasgow.

Though he scored four goals in 12 Premiership games but was hampered by problems with alcohol.

After loan spells at Cruz Azul and Necaxa his contract was terminated in February 2019 and Pena's career has been a struggle in the intervening 18 months.

After a failed move to Polish side GKS Tychy he had a seven-game spell with Correcaminos in the Mexican second tier.

And his woes meant that Pena's last professional goal came while playing for Rangers, with the midfielder scoring the second goal in a 3-0 win over Aberdeen on November 29 2017.

The Mexican international has finally found the net again though, bagging a brace as Atletico Veracruzano beat San Jose FC in the Liga del Balompié Mexicano.

Unfortunately for Pena though the breakaway league is not officially recognised by the Mexican FA and, as a result, not by FIFA either.

It was founded in January 2020 as an alternate to the Liga MX and has an unusual system of two points for a win and none for a draw.
