Carlos Pena exits retirement but Rangers flop gets firm behaviour warning over colourful past

Former Rangers flop Carlos Pena has come out of retirement to sign for United Arab Emirates second-tier outfit Al Dhaid. And he was immediately warned to behave by his new club's chief.

Pena, 32, had a disastrous spell at Ibrox after then-manager Pedro Caixinha splashed out £3million on him five years ago.
His Rangers contract was eventually terminated by mutual consent in February 2019 after two loan spells in Mexico blighted by alcohol problems. Since then, he's had a stint in Poland where he didn't kick a ball with GKS Tychy, before returning to Mexico with three different clubs.

He then signed for obscure clubs in El Salvador and Guatemala before ending up in Honduras with CD Vida, where he was released last year. Pena suggested he was set to retire from football after his spell in Honduras ended, but he's managed to find a new club in the UAE with Sharjah outfit Al Dhaid. But he's been told his club won't stand for his past colourful behaviour.

Club president Issa Hilal Al-Hazami said: "We are delighted to sign Carlos Pena - a top Mexican international player. The player has been well briefed on the basis, principles and rules governing our community and its culture."

Pena said: "I am very happy to be in this wonderful country and I am looking forward to this new challenge." He made just six league starts during his time at Ibrox, but the 19-times capped Mexican World Cup midfielder is set to relaunch his career in the Gulf.
