Carlos Mendes Gomes Rangers transfer news as Morecambe attacker swerves Ibrox move poser

In-demand attacker Carlos Mendes Gomes is focusing on his career "improvement" as he declined to answer a question on links with Rangers

The 22-year-old came through the youth academy set-up at La Liga giants Atletico Madrid before moving to England.

He struggled to find a club before he was handed a chance at Morecambe and was a stand-out for Derek Adams ' playoff winners last term.

The winger has been linked with a move to the Scottish Premiership champions, and also had suitors south of the border including Sunderland. but the League One new boys have activated an extra year on his contract to avoid a free transfer.

Mendes Gomes has admitted ambitions of a return to Spain despite interest from Steven Gerrard.

However, he admits he is looking for a club that help him improve as a player - whether that is in the English lower leagues or elsewhere.

When asked about interest from Ibrox, he told Spanish newspaper The Leader : “Personally, the season has been good – but there’s always room for improvement.

"I believe I can up it and improve."

Having worked with Scot Adams ahead of his departure from the Shrimps for Bradford, he believes he has drastically improved as a player having netted 16 goals this term.

He added: “Adams took my game to the next level – mentality-wise and also my technical ability. He’s given me the confidence to go onto the pitch, express myself and just be me

“He’s added more directness to my game. My relationship with him is great, when the manager speaks highly in interviews and one-to-one, it’s really pleasing to hear.”
