Carlos Mendes Gomes Rangers transfer news as Derek Adams weighs in on his in-demand goal machine

Confident Morecambe boss Derek Adams insists he is relaxed about Rangers' reported interest in exciting prospect Carlos Mendes Gomes, with the English League Two side set to trigger an extra year's extension on his contract.

The Ibrox side have been linked with a move for the 22-year-old, who netted a weekend double against Oldham Athletic to bring his tally for the season to 15 goals.

Although Gomes - who came through the ranks at Atletico Madrid - is out of contract at the end of the season, the club put in a clause that gave them the right to exercise an extension which they hope will ensure a bumper transfer fee for him.

Rangers have been joined by a number of English Championship clubs who have all been credited with an interest as well as Steven Gerrard 's side.

And former Ross County and Plymouth Argyle boss Adams refused to deny Gomes' deal has now been automatically extended by a year, which would thwart any hopes Rangers had of getting him for nothing.

He said: "It’s not beneficial for me, the club or Carlos to say what the situation is, but I’m very comfortable with it as I’ve said all along.

"Until there’s a bid put in for any of our players, speculation is all it is.

"It is a good thing to have though. If other clubs are being linked with your players, it means something positive must be happening.

"Carlos is a fantastic boy, you can tell that by his work ethic in training and in games.

"You could see that on Tuesday with the goal he scored and his overall performance."
